Through the Lens of Music Part II: “Meeting Relational Needs Through Music During COVID-19”

Paula M. Vincenza Dante

As the Pandemic continues to impact how and when we will return to in-person work, so also do the challenges of Zoom and telehealth linger. How can we continue to provide enlivened, enriching and even hopeful work for our clients in the midst of Zoom fatigue? How can we move beyond words to process the grief, loss, anxiety, and anticipation about re-opening and assessing a new normal? How can we, as clinicians, maintain self-care, refueling and re-charging during one of the most demanding personal and professional times ever? Music. Let’s turn once again to music - one of our most important emotional companions and sources of support, grounding, and connection to ourselves and others. Based on concepts and methods from Relational Integrative Psychotherapy, Music Psychotherapy, and Creative Arts Therapies, this didactic and experiential workshop will review material presented last Fall in “Through The Lens of Music: Meeting Relational Needs Through Music During COVID-19,”* and then take a deeper look into ways to incorporate focused music listening as a clinical and personal resource. How to introduce music listening into sessions, choose appropriate music with clients, and manage the technological aspects of using music on Zoom will be discussed, along with brief case examples. In addition, applications for clinician self-care will be included. Attendance at the Fall workshop is NOT required.
