AnthonyShimkin
This workshop centers on exploring barriers to access and care received by people of color to address
inequities in the healthcare system that disproportionately affect these communities. Leading from a trauma-
informed and social justice lens, facilitators will emphasize social identity related power dynamics and the
contribution to oppression and marginalization to the extent that these dynamics impact patient care and
experience. The workshop presents didactic, experiential and application-centered material with an emphasis
on inclusion and patient experience. The facilitators will present opportunities for self-reflection, challenging
beliefs, practicing difficult dialogues, ongoing self-assessment, and action steps.
