The Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders (OCRDs) is a new diagnostic category in DSM-5. This category includes obsessive-compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, hoarding disorder, trichotillomania, and excoriation (skin-picking) disorder. In this workshop, Dr. David Tolin, a leading expert on OCRDs, will review the biological and psychological aspects of these disorders and present a transdiagnostic approach that identifies underlying mechanisms such as fear, perfectionism/incompleteness, avoidance, compulsivity, impulsivity, distorted beliefs, and distorted information processing. Core treatment strategies, including exposure and response prevention, competing response practice, stimulus control, acceptance, challenging distorted thoughts, reversing information processing biases, and enhancing motivation will be reviewed, with video vignettes demonstrating their use. Participants will receive practical clinical information that can be put to immediate use for their clients with OCRDs.
